What is a PTFE lined thrust washer?
A PTFE lined thrust washer is a low-friction bearing component designed to support axial loads while allowing smooth rotational or oscillating movement. Bowman's WMU® washers feature a carbon steel backing, a porous sintered bronze layer, and a PTFE-based sliding surface, providing excellent wear resistance, low friction, and maintenance-free performance in demanding applications.
What sizes of WMU® washers are available?
Bowman supplies WMU® thrust washers in a comprehensive range of metric and imperial sizes from stock. This broad size range allows the washers to suit a wide variety of industrial applications while ensuring fast availability and reduced lead times.
Can I order non-standard WMU® washer sizes?
Yes. Bowman offers an in-house machining service to manufacture WMU® washers in bespoke dimensions. Non-standard inside diameters, outside diameters, thicknesses, and other custom specifications can be produced to meet the requirements of OEMs, replacement parts, and specialised engineering applications.
What backing materials do WMU® washers come in?
Standard WMU® washers are manufactured with a carbon steel backing. For applications requiring enhanced corrosion resistance or specific performance characteristics, Bowman can also supply bronze-backed and stainless steel-backed versions to order.
Where are PTFE lined thrust washers used?
PTFE lined thrust washers are widely used wherever reliable axial load support and low-friction operation are required. Typical applications include hydraulic equipment, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, marine systems, pumps, valves, gearboxes, lifting equipment, industrial automation, and general engineering applications where long service life and minimal maintenance are essential.
